about me
I grew up in Ahmedabad, India, where I learned to cook from my grandmother and mother. My first challenge was to roll out flatbread properly. It's harder than it looks.
Every year I would help my mother prepare delicious, homemade delights for the Diwali Festival.
My father's specialty dish was his own mixed-vegetable curry. Often, I helped prepare a healthy, complete meal for my family.
On Sunday morning, I made "fafda," a flatbread shaped like a lasagna noodle.
I was not born to cook, but after I married and moved to rural Lexington, North Carolina, I found that I enjoyed preparing food from local ingredients that were different than in India. I would make them taste Indian! This love of cooking led me to open my lifelong-dream Indian restaurant in Elk Rapids, Michigan, serving authentic, house-prepared, Indian food as well as several fusion dishes that combine the best of both cultures. MY FOOD • Farm-to-table ingredients • Family recipes • Made fresh daily
